Christie and Nathan

How We Met:

Nathan and I are both career driven individuals.  As a Airline Pilot and a Pharmacist, we both focused on establishing ourselves during our young adult lives.  Not having the time to date traditionally, our friends suggested we try dating apps.  Nathan and I met on a dating app called “Hinge”.  Reluctant to do dating apps, my friend told me about her experience with them and I decided why not give it a try.  I remember opening a message from a guy dressed in a pilot uniform (he was cute!).  He was responding to my Two truths and a lie on my profile.  His first guess was wrong, and I remember telling him to guess again.  His second guess was also wrong, but he got it on the third try, lol!  For the next two weeks we talked about our likes, dislikes, hobbies, careers, and then he asked me to go bowling on our first date.  We met at the bowling alley only to be told the lanes were full.  I remember the look on his face, but he thought quickly and found another bowling alley.  Our date could have ended up in the gutter easily, but he made it a strike. Turns out he was right up my alley, because I wanted to see him again.

Our Engagement:

Nathan planned several options to propose but finally landed on a hot air balloon ride for us on a family vacation in Florida.  He wanted a place that would have meaning.  He is a pilot and I love Disney, so a hot air balloon ride over Disney was the perfect combination of his love of aviation and my love of Disney.  Unfortunately, our hot air balloon ride was canceled due to winds, but yet again, he kept trying.  He then planned for us to ride a tethered balloon in Disney Springs because surely they would fly no matter what the winds.  We got to Disney Springs and unfortunately the tethered balloon was also not flying.  He was determined to give me the proposal he envisioned, so he called the balloon company and the next thing I knew we were headed down to the restricted balloon area.  He took my camera from me, told me how beautiful I looked, and talked about how much our love had grown over the past year and a half.  He was trying to take our relationship to new heights (pun intended), and down on one knee he went.  I remember shaking so much and knowing this was it, this was the moment that would stand the test of time.  I said yes!!  #oncloudnine or more like #oncloudshaffer  We got back to our hotel room, and he surprised me yet again with shirts he had made for us.  His shirt was a Mickey hand holding an engagement ring that said “I asked”.  My shirt was Minnie wearing the ring that said “I said yes.”  We went later that night to take pictures at Magic Kingdom in front of the castle wearing our shirts. Talk about a fairytale.  We can’t wait for our Happily Ever After!

Plans for The Big Day:

We are getting married at St Maurice Church in Forest Hills, PA on October 15, 2022.  Our reception will be at Shannopin Country Club.  We chose a venue that is elegant with a view of Pittsburgh from the golf course.  Our vision for our wedding is tones of royal blue, gold, and silver.  We can’t wait to celebrate our fall wedding surrounded by family and friends we love.
